The Best Zoom Features for Online Instruction and Teaching

Zoom provides educators with tools to promote active learning in their synchronous classes, including chat, non-verbal feedback, polling, annotation, and breakout rooms. Below are a few zoom tools that we at Klatch think will help you make your worship or online course awesome!

1) Whiteboard

The Zoom whiteboard feature will let you share a whiteboard with other participants that you can annotate.

2) Virtual Backgrounds

The Virtual Background feature allows participants to display an image or video as their background during a Zoom Meeting. You are able to upload your own photos. Get Creative and be fun with it. You can also use backgrounds in breakout rooms!

3) Recording

If you want to be able to record your Zoom meeting, that’s absolutely fine. However, if you don’t want the meeting recorded, disabling recordings will help keep things private.

4) Polling

According to Zoom, the polling feature for meetings helps you create questions that can be used to assess your learners’ opinions or level of understanding. You can launch the poll during your meeting and then collect responses from participants. After the meeting, you can also download a report of polling results. This is an especially helpful tool for formative assessment purposes.

5) Annotation abilities

Similar to the Whiteboard features, facilitators have the opportunity to annotate their screen and have learners be able to see said annotations

6) Waiting Room

The Waiting Room feature allows the host to control when a participant joins the meeting. As the meeting host, you can choose when participants join the meeting, or hold all attendees in the Waiting Room and allow them all to join at once.

7) Screensharing

One of the most useful tools in Zoom is screen sharing – especially when used for training or webinars. Participants can annotate on a shared screen as a viewer or the one that started sharing your screen.

Zoom provides educators with a variety of tools to promote active learning in their synchronous classes, including chat, non-verbal feedback, polling, annotation, and breakout rooms. These tools can help teachers foster a more engaged and interactive class environment.
