Who This Is For

  • Mental Health Professionals and anyone interested in this new diagnosis

    This training is suitable for any provider that works with youth and wants to enhance their cultural competency with this population.

Workshop Details

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ) youth experience trauma at higher rates than their straight peers. Trauma informed knowledge, skills, and resources are necessary to capture a full picture of what LGBTQ youth might be experiencing. This workshop will introduce learners to the principles of trauma informed care, and the realities of trauma within this community. Affirming tools for clinicians to assess trauma experiences in youth will be shared and clinical recommendations for effective and sensitive practice will be presented. Learners will engage in more trauma informed practices with LGBTQ youth and feel more confident in supporting this community.

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize six core trauma informed care principles of effective practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the strengths and challenges of LGBTQ youth.
  • Enhance knowledge, skill, and ability to effectively assess trauma experiences with this population.
