Do you spend most or all of your playing time alone? Would you like to be able to play a song without feeling like something is missing?

In this workshop we’ll look at how to enjoy playing alone by creating simple solo arrangements. Using chords you already know, we’ll look at how to add melody and flavor so that the next time someone asks you to play something, you’ll be ready!

Beginners are welcome, but you should have a solid grasp of the primary open chords and be able to strum through a simple song.

$25.00 per session$25.00

Workshop Details

Solo guitar arranging starts with learning how to pull simple melodies from familiar chords. In this workshop, we’ll look at the relationship between the G chord and G scale to play a simple version of “Jingle Bells”.

1. Reviewing primary open position chords in G
2. Relating the G major scale to the G, C, and D chords
3. Basic theory: chord function (or, why “THREE chords and the truth”?)
4. Playing a simple melody in open position: Jingle Bells
5. Basic theory: hearing implied chord changes
6. Connecting the parts: finding which chords fit.

This workshop has our standard refund policy.

This is my second solo playing workshop with Dave, and I plan on attending them regularly. Dave is far more than an extraordinary guitarist-- he is a master teacher whose sessions are explorations of music on multiple levels, from basic fundamental technique, to the theory and the feeling of the piece that is the focus of the session. These sessions are fascinating and fun at the same time, and I feel will advance my own playing.

Dave’s presentation skills are off the chart. I can’t imagine a much better experience even if I were in a one on one personal lesson with him. Dave’s command of the technology associated with Klatch is top notch.
The materials for his workshop classes are perfect for my needs to move along with the kind of improvement that I had hoped for. Dave is truly is a guitar guru and I’m glad to have connected with this remarkable music educator. Do yourself a favor and sign up for one of classes.
