Bio

I have been an educator and researcher for over 20 years and have a range of experiences in K-12 and higher education. My research experiences includes designing studies using both qualitative and quantitative methods, and I have published books and journal articles in a range of outlets.

My research has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the International Literacy Association, The Early Career Achievement Award, and The Edward B. Fry Book award for Empowering Struggling Readers: Practices for the Middles Grades (both from the Literacy Research Association). I have published in such journals as Research in the Teaching of English,  Teachers College Record, and the Harvard Educational Review.
