Solo guitar arranging starts with learning how to pull simple melodies from familiar chords. In this workshop, we’ll look at the relationship between the G chord and G scale to play a simple version of “Jingle Bells”.
1. Reviewing primary open position chords in G
2. Relating the G major scale to the G, C, and D chords
3. Basic theory: chord function (or, why “THREE chords and the truth”?)
4. Playing a simple melody in open position: Jingle Bells
5. Basic theory: hearing implied chord changes
6. Connecting the parts: finding which chords fit.
